Youth Development Programme
The PTO Youth Development Programme is designed to support Pasifika youth aged 16–24 across Ōtepoti Dunedin and the wider Otago region. The programme aims to build a strong sense of identity, connection, leadership, and wellbeing among our young people as they navigate life, education, and future opportunities.
We engage with youth through school visits, leadership workshops, talanoa sessions, community events, and peer-led initiatives. Each engagement is shaped by youth voice and focused on providing culturally grounded, strengths-based support that empowers young Pasifika to lead with confidence and pride.
Our Talanoa Sessions are a key part of the programme. These are safe, open spaces where youth can share their stories, express their aspirations, and provide insight into what they need from their schools, communities, and support systems.
These sessions also include kai, koha, and opportunities to connect with other young people, mentors, and role models.
The programme collaborates with secondary schools, tertiary providers, youth councils, churches, and Pacific community organisations to ensure that services are accessible, relevant, and led in partnership with the youth themselves.
If you are a school, youth leader, or organisation interested in working with the Youth Development Programme, or would like to host a session, please get in touch by emailing youth@pto.nz
